ASP.NET Core: follow the matching app model

Use a focused Microsoft reference path for ASP.NET Core apps, APIs, security, and upgrades.

Skills

Start by identifying the target framework, SDK, and app model already used by the repository. For a new app or major refactor, read stack selection first, then the Program and request-pipeline guide, followed by exactly one primary reference for Blazor, Razor Pages, MVC, or APIs. Add identity, security, data, real-time, or testing references only when the feature requires them. Preserve the existing model, and prefer built-in DI, options, logging, and ProblemDetails before adding infrastructure. Check version guidance before using new APIs or crossing a major upgrade; verify any “latest” claim on Microsoft Learn.

Limitations

Choose the matching app model—Blazor, Razor Pages, MVC, or API—and consult its Microsoft references. Framework versions and “latest” guidance change; do not rewrite an existing app without a reason.
