Create an accessible narration from a chart-heavy PDF deck
Pass a presentation as a multimodal PDF and produce a structured narration that explains charts.
Goal
Goal: Pass a presentation as a multimodal PDF and produce a structured narration that explains charts.
Steps
- Export slides to PDF and check total pages against the model PDF limit and remove sensitive content. [multimodal]
- Use
messages.create(model=..., max_tokens=8192, messages=[...document block...])to extract figures, trends, and definitions; require uncertainty labels. [multimodal] - Request narration per slide and parse stable tags; compare samples with source slides and independently recompute calculations. [multimodal]
How to verify
Verify values, units, trend direction, and labels against source slides; ensure narration covers key visual information.
Troubleshooting
For dense charts ask for a point-by-point description; model arithmetic can be wrong, so use a calculator or recompute independently.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- Python 3.11+, Anthropic API key, a PDF-capable model, and a de-identified slide deck.
Permissions
- Process only approved documents; limit upload and log retention and follow policy for sensitive financial data.
Limitations
PDF beta behavior and page limits may change; multimodal input may not embed cleanly into text RAG indexes.
