Download futures open interest for research
Add contract-position data without placing orders and verify futures-pair syntax.
Goal
Obtain historical open-interest data for a selected contract and timeframe.
Steps
- Confirm the exchange supports historical open-interest data and verify contract settlement notation. [download]
- Run
freqtrade download-data --exchange binance --pairs BTC/USDT:USDT --timeframes 1h --trading-mode futures --candle-types open_interest. [download] - Use
list-data --show-timerangeto inspect open-interest files/range and align timestamps with candles. [download]
How to verify
Data exists for the intended contract, timeframe, and range, with timestamps alignable to candles.
Troubleshooting
If the exchange lacks a historical endpoint, record the gap and stop; never backfill history with current values.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- Python 3.11+, Freqtrade installed, a pinned strategy, and a local user-data directory.
Permissions
- Use public market data and local history; treat every trading decision as research and never connect a live account.
Limitations
Open-interest availability varies by exchange and market; download success does not prove correct strategy use.
