OpenAI Docs: verify against official sources
Use OpenAI Docs MCP for product guides and API shapes, and the Codex manual route for Codex-specific answers.
Skills
Route the request first: general OpenAI documentation, Codex self-knowledge, model selection, or migration. For non-Codex questions, search and fetch the relevant page through Docs MCP; use its OpenAPI tool alongside guides for schema, parameter, or required-field claims. For broad Codex setup and behavior, consult the official Codex manual route before widening the search. For latest-model questions, fetch the official latest-model guide; preserve an explicitly requested target in migration work. Use web fallback only on official OpenAI domains and only when MCP or the manual leaves a material gap. State uncertainty when the source route does not settle a claim. The manual helper writes a temporary local cache. Installing MCP, signing in, or changing local configuration affects the user environment and should follow an explicit setup request.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- For OpenAI products/APIs, Codex behavior, or model migration; check whether the Docs MCP is available when needed.
- For Codex product questions, reuse a fresh same-thread manual or the skill-local Node.js manual helper.
Permissions
- Can search and fetch official documentation/OpenAPI through Docs MCP; the Codex manual helper uses network access and writes a local temporary cache. Web fallback is limited to official OpenAI domains.
- The skill describes MCP installation, OAuth sign-in, and configuration changes; perform those local setup actions only when the user asks.
Limitations
For OpenAI documentation, Codex, and model-selection or upgrade questions. Verify against official docs; model guidance changes and should not rely on stale cache or memory.
