ChatGPT Apps: document first, then plan MCP and UI
Start from current official docs and a matching example to plan tools, resources, and widgets.
Skills
Fetch the current Apps SDK pages through OpenAI Docs MCP or official documentation; for a new project, also check the quickstart and the closest official example. Classify the request as tool-only, a basic widget, React widget, decoupled UI, or public submission. Plan each tool before coding, including inputs, outputs, read-only annotations, and write side effects. Adapt the example into the MCP server and widget, then verify resource URIs, structured output, bridge APIs, CSP domains, and URI versioning. Prepare deployment or submission only when requested; explain any local hosting, tunnel, or OAuth changes.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- For ChatGPT Apps SDK tool servers and widgets: design, scaffolding, refactoring, or troubleshooting.
- Fetch current Apps SDK documentation first and define which tools are read-only or mutate data.
Permissions
- May generate or edit local MCP server, widget, and scaffold code; describe tool side effects, CSP, and permissions accurately.
- Local hosting, tunnels, deployment, or public submission starts external services or publishes content; do these only when requested.
Limitations
Prefer current official Apps SDK documentation, classify the app shape first, and adapt the closest official example. CSP, compatibility aliases, and submission steps may change.
