Upgrade Expo SDK and Resolve Dependencies
Plan an Expo SDK upgrade, apply version migration guidance, and check React, native-module, and dependency compatibility.
Skills
Before upgrading, inspect the SDK version and whether native `ios/` or `android/` directories exist. Align packages with `npx expo install expo@latest` and `npx expo install --fix`, then run `npx expo-doctor`. Review version-specific notes for React, React Compiler, native tabs, and expo-av migrations. Run `npx expo prebuild --clean` only when the project’s CNG setup is confirmed; do not wipe native directories blindly. Finish with target-platform builds and feature regression checks.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- An Expo project with a known SDK version, access to release notes, and the ability to build the target platforms.
Permissions
- Updates dependencies and may regenerate native folders or build files; inspect local changes first and do not erase uncommitted work.
Limitations
Upgrade success depends on dependencies and platform toolchains; verify with real builds, and expect preview SDK behavior to change.
