Data storytelling: make findings understandable
Structure charts and reports around insight, baseline, evidence, and action instead of a data dump.
Skills
Identify the audience and decision question, then build a narrative from baseline through finding, context, evidence, recommendation, and next action. Use charts for meaningful comparisons and curate a small number of data points; separate findings from recommendations, lead with the “so what,” and match the audience’s vocabulary. State metric definitions and uncertainty so rhetoric does not imply unsupported causation.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- Needs checked metrics, definitions, baselines, and an audience; it does not invent data.
Permissions
- May read approved analysis and draft chart narratives or reports; a person should verify numbers and claims before publication.
Limitations
Narrative structure does not establish causation; retain definitions, unfavorable results, and uncertainty.
