Screen reader testing: verify spoken behavior from keyboard paths
Check navigation, control names, form errors, and dynamic announcements in real screen-reader/browser combinations.
Skills
Choose the target OS, browser, reader, version, and language. Starting from headings and landmarks, complete the main task using only the keyboard. Check link/button names, label-error associations, focus order, and live-region updates; use the accessibility tree to locate defects. Cover at least NVDA with Firefox or VoiceOver with Safari, and validate mobile VoiceOver/Safari separately where relevant. Report which combinations were actually run versus unavailable, with reproducible steps. Automated scan results are supporting evidence only.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- For validating screen-reader behavior in web pages, navigation, forms, ARIA, and live announcements.
- Requires a runnable browser/site; available assistive technology depends on OS/device.
Permissions
- May browse the target site, inspect its accessibility tree, operate controls, and submit forms to observe announcements.
- Use project-provided test accounts/data; do not submit production data.
Limitations
Prioritize NVDA/Firefox, VoiceOver/Safari, and mobile VoiceOver. Report unavailable readers; automated scans do not replace manual announcement checks.
