Brainstorming: clarify the goal before designing
Use open questions and a brief concept pass to ground nontrivial creative work.
Skills
When a new feature, product, business idea, or creative work has a material gap in its goal, first uncover the concrete situation and why it matters. The source asks the first response to say the user may skip questions, then ask one open question. Use the answer to clarify success, non-goals, current state, and choices of platform or medium. Compare a few directions privately, and offer a small throwaway prototype when seeing it would help. If the request is already precise, act without adding process questions. State which choices are yours instead of implying that the user approved an unconfirmed decision.
Permissions
Prerequisites
- Use when a material goal gap exists; proceed directly when the request is already clear.
Permissions
- May ask clarifying questions and present directions or a throwaway prototype based on the user’s answers.
Limitations
This workflow may pause for answers and is not a mandatory detour for small, fully specified tasks.
